August 2022 - Report from ASICS 10K Run
The Asics London 10k was held for the second year since the Covid hiatus, and it proved to be another very enjoyable run in beautiful sunny conditions. All six runners completed the distance in spite of it being already too hot from the 9.30 start.
Unfortunately many previous participants were either on holiday or had other commitments, but Emily Cousens, Duv Ratna, Alice Nicholas, Will Bowry, Colin Corcoran and Richard Gardner took to the streets for The Friends, having raised sponsorship donations from their friends and families. Shree Laturia was participating in another community event on the day, but he had already run the Hackney Half Marathon a couple of weeks earlier, and generously donated his fundraising from that event to the Friends.
Emily was the star performer, finishing in just over 40 minutes, which is a very quick time considering the heat, and the rest of us eventually found our way to the finish line at our own paces. As before, the route was well lined with spectators and supporters, and there was no shortage of noise and musical entertainment at every step of the way, creating a wonderful carnival atmosphere which gave a real boost to tired legs.
As of the date of this report, a sum of almost £1,400 has been raised, for which we thank the efforts of the runners and their many supporters. The 10k is a really exhilarating experience, taking in some of London’s most iconic landmarks, and has the added benefit of being flat, so fast times are possible. Whether you are a hare or a tortoise, why not make note in your diary to join us in July 2023?!
